Antonio Conte: Tottenham head coach describes reports linking him to Paris Saint-Germain job as ‘fake news’ | Soccer News

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has slammed speculation linking him with the Paris Saint-Germain job as ‘fake news’.

Reports emerged in France and Italy earlier this week suggesting Conte was interested in replacing Mauricio Pochettino at the Ligue 1 club.

Conte, who has 12 months left on his contract, has consistently refused to commit his long-term future with Spurs but insists the latest round of speculation is not true.

He said: “Obviously I think it’s good that other clubs appreciate my work. That’s one thing. But the truth is I don’t like it when people try to invest in news – only to talk, only to create trouble.

“It’s not fair, not fair for me, for the clubs involved and for my players.

“Also because we are really focused on these five games to get a fantastic result for us. I repeat, this type of situation makes me smile.

“But I also think that people who want to say something about this need to show respect for everyone involved in this situation, and not make up fake news and tell a lot of lies.

“In this situation, who works in football – players or managers – knows very well at this stage of the season a lot of fake news starts to come out.”

The Italian doesn’t want this issue to be a distraction for the club’s Champions League qualification efforts.

Spurs are two points behind Arsenal with five games remaining and Conte has called for a joint effort to cross the line.

“Right now our fans, me, the players, the club, the fans, we have to focus, we have to focus on an important goal for us,” he said.

“We have a great opportunity to try and secure a place in the Champions League.

“It’s a big opportunity for us because no one can imagine staying and fighting for that goal in this league now right now. In the past it was different but now you know very well what I said in the past, it would be a miracle to get this achievement.

“We are doing something special for the situation we have faced this season. I have spoken with my players and it is the same with our fans, they must continue to support us and push us until the end. end.

“We are living this dream. We have to keep going until the end to secure a Champions League place. It is fair to point out that we are fighting for a goal that was not on our minds at the start of the season.

Conte says Tottenham have nothing to lose in race to finish in Premier League top four

“For this reason, I want to push everyone at the club to have great enthusiasm, great passion, our fans to stick with us and support us from start to finish.

“Now it would be very important to be focused and not listen to fake news and people who definitely want to create problems for the environment.

“We have to play these five games and then you know, because I answer a lot of times, at the end of the season in a private way, I will speak with my club and see the best solution.

“We are working very hard and my players know very well that we are very focused. We talk a lot about this opportunity.

“We have to live this situation with passion, enthusiasm and joy. I repeat, we deserve to stay there and fight for a place in the Champions League. A place in the Champions League is not easy for anyone.

“To stay there, we must take advantage of this situation. For this reason, I repeat that our fans must remain with us at all times. Positive and negative moments. We deserve to fight until the end and to have a big thumbs up from our fans.”
