Celtic v Rangers: Scottish Premiership – live! | Scottish Premiership

52 mins: Carter Vickers only gets to the ball first past Aribo and the pair take some time to delicately get back to their feet.

50 mins: Ralston trails Arfield in midfield as the ball bounces back. He enters the book.

48 mins: Sakala is taken offside as Rangers threaten once again.

Kyogo is a fantastic footballer. His movement and thinking are one step ahead of everyone else on this court.

47 mins: …the ball lands on the penalty spot and Goldson pivots…but launches his effort over the bar.

46 mins: As they did in the first half, Rangers start on the front foot. Carter-Vickers deflects a clearance for a corner…

Peep! Here we go again.

Rangers came out a good few minutes before Celtic for the second half…

Half-time: Celtic 1-0 Rangers

Peep! Piiiiii!! And There you go. An equal half really, but Celtic seem to have a lot more quality in attack and that’s the difference so far.

43 mins: Furuhashi whips his effort away from the reach. Rangers could do with the half-time whistle here.

41 minutes: What luck ! Maeda should nod but has one eye on the Rangers keeper and looks shyly close. “The old turtle neck,” says Ally McCoist in the comments.

40 mins: Rangers haven’t created anything for the first 15 minutes.

38 mins: Tavernier swings into a few corners from the Rangers right, both shallow and aimless.

36 mins: … O’Riley’s corner falls dangerously but Celtic can’t take advantage of it.

35 mins: Jota and Hatate combine down the left to earn a corner…

33 mins: Taylor overshoots his cross after Jota’s deft touch and pass put the left-back into space. Definite lack of precision in attacking areas on both sides so far.

32 mins: Chance! It’s Jota again, flying for a header he heads over the bar when he really should have done better.

30 minutes: Having dispossessed Taviernier, Jota holds him, holds him, Your’s, when he should find a teammate and the opportunity disappears.

28 mins: Hart draws the ire of his manager after refusing an offside clearance.

26 mins: Tavernier is allowed to advance to the Rangers right… but O’Riley comes back to intercept his (weak) pass towards Kent.

25 mins: Battle fever is back. Celtic are chasing their opponents now. Rangers faltering a bit.

22 mins: Rangers will be furious with themselves – it was far too easy. And the visitors had probably got ahead of the first quarter. A collective and Celtic cut largely sufficient to benefit from it. Parkhead rocks.

GOAL! Celtic 1-0 Rangers (Jota 21)

Out of nowhere, Celtic takes the lead! Maeda drifts in from the left to find… yards of space. He sneaks into the box, passes Goldson and shoots the ball through. Jota comes in from the right and crosses Barisic to steal home.

19 mins: Furuhashi puts Bassey under pressure as Celtic seek to advance their failed mojo…

18 mins: It’s all kind of calmed down now, with that frenetic early pace giving way to a bit of calm possession football on both sides.

15 mins: Kent thunders an effort towards the goal from distance but it’s directly on Hart.

13 mins: just wide! Lundstram and Davis are leading the midfield at the moment – the former wins the ball, the latter finds Arfield on the right. Kent cuts from the left to meet his cross and gets there past Ralston, but his volley effort is cut from a yard wide. Great luck.

12 mins: …whipped by O’Riley but Lundstram clears.

11 minutes: A first attack in good and due form for Celtic. Jota tries to grab the ball from the right but a deflection earns him a corner…

9 minutes: Kyogo Furuhashi cuts off Lundstram as the Rangers man looks to sweep a ball to the right. The referee keeps his cards in his pocket. For the time being.

7 minutes: Maeda looks to explode after Sakala’s loose pass, but he too is ousted. All a little inform for the moment.

6 minutes: Lundstrum charges forward on the right but Aribo can’t pass Carter-Vickers in the middle to get to the end of the cross.

5 minutes : Celtic settled for a throw-in but Rangers pressed the centre-backs quite effectively and prevented the home team’s time on the ball.

4 minutes: “Oh no, not you again, you stupid illiterate,” laughs Norrie Hernon. “Apologies if I’m the only/837th making this joke.” My therapist is going to earn his money this week.

3 minutes: Aribo started in the middle for Rangers, with Sakala on the right and Kent on the left. The latter emerges but is hampered by Barisic, whose forward run is poorly judged. The visitors were the best in these early skirmishes, however.

2 minutes : A frenetic and rambling start as one might expect.

Peep! Rangers set things in motion in the glorious Glasgow sunshine.

Take out players in Parkhead’s cauldron. John Terry is in the stands wearing a Celtic scarf, and Rod Stewart is there too. Do Rangers have reason to believe, or is Tonight The Night a Celtic party?

A pre-match email: “A little question for you”, begins Phil Withall. “I’ve always wondered about what’s in the inbox during very busy games like this. I imagine there is a lot of vitriol, pettiness and outright abuse. How do you and your fellow MBM reporters handle this?

The Angry Types seem to be sticking to social media these days rather than targeting the MBM inbox. It wasn’t always the case: During an Ashes series in Australia many years ago, when I was doing OBO from London, I was logging in at 2am or whatever, and every day, without fault, the same person was sending me emails with variations of “Oh, not you again, you stupid illiterate”. Obviously, I dealt with it by burying my feelings deep inside me and not leaving me tormented only occasionally a decade later.

The teams

Hello and welcome to minute-by-minute coverage of the fifth and final Old Firm debry of the 2021-22 season and the third meeting between these teams in less than a month. Rangers got the better of their neighbors in the cup last time out, but Celtic won the league tie at Ibrox in early April and can effectively seal the Scottish Premiership title with a win today.

Celtic lead Rangers by six points with four games remaining, so while a win for Rangers today would delay crowning, Glasgow’s blue half would still need Celtic to drop points in two of their last three matches if he is to deny his rivals a 10th title in 11 years.

Kick-off is at noon BST.
