Martin Keown asks Sky Sports and Gary Neville about Arsenal coverage

Sky Sports broadcast Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 demolition of Arsenal in a crucial North London derby on Thursday and Martin Keown was unhappy with their coverage, as Gary Neville commented

Keown criticized Neville and Sky

Martin Keown has expressed dismay at Sky Sports’ coverage of the North London derby, appearing to criticize Gary Neville for his comment.

On Thursday night, Tottenham Hotspur demolished Arsenal 3-0, stealing the momentum in the race to finish fourth and qualify for next season’s Champions League. Harry Kane and Heung-min Son scored the goals to give Spurs an emphatic victory, with former Keown side Arsenal conceding an early start and seeing defender Rob Holding shown a red card for a ‘stupid’ foul in the first half time.

While much of the criticism was directed at Mikel Arteta and his players, Keown took issue with former Manchester United right-back Neville, Sky’s cover and referee Paul Tierney’s decisions – or lack thereof. Speaking on talkSPORT, the Gunners legend lamented an incident saying: “If you look at Ben Davies it’s like a toe tackle and he’s trying to grab [Bukayo] Saka walks away and nothing becomes more.

“Maybe Sky didn’t really want to make much of it and maybe it was the commentary team going one way rather than the other… I think the penalty was soft.

“Nobody really referred to it, but last night I thought there was a lot of replays every time an Arsenal player fouls. A key incident, Saka was way off goal there. .”

Asked about his view by presenter Jim White, Keown doubled down, saying: “I think Gary Neville was very quick to say it was a real-time penalty. If he was a full-back, real-time , he would have been unhappy if it was given against him. I say he was very quick to say it was a penalty.”

While any potential bias is certainly subjective, Neville has been critical of Arsenal and in particular centre-back Holding. “What is he doing? What is he doing? Oh my God,” the former United captain said shortly after his dismissal. “I’m watching the run and he’s got a nudge. He’s been erratic the first part of this game, he’s been reckless, he’s been unstable and he has to go.”

Pundit Jamie Redknapp agreed, adding at half-time: “He had two incidents before he was even warned. We spoke before the game about derby games, a game of this magnitude, you need with a cool head, don’t do anything stupid The second with Son is silly, he is doing judo moves on the soccer field.

“Then he gets caught again, then it becomes a buildup, then it becomes a booking. Once you’re booked, he has to be very careful because he doesn’t want to get too close to Son because he can run behind you. .

“You already have a big problem with him, he’s too fast, too strong, and certainly don’t get too tight, like that for his second yellow. It could even be a direct red card because he raises his elbow , this is a very bad decision by Rob Holding. I have to admit that the manager is wrong too.

“Once you lose your centre-back the first thing you do is put in another one as soon as you can. He should have put in Ben White, all of his staff are trying to figure out what to do, then they’re left short and are done from set pieces when they needed a central defender because they are not the greatest team either.”
